Life with Aspergers
The second book I read for my PDE goal was "Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's," by John Elder Robinson. The book is a memoir about his life and how he grew up in the 60s and 70s with Asperger's. It follows his troubled childhood with his family and the people around him to his unconventional adulthood. I think what I liked most about this book was the first person perspective. It gave me insight into the thought process and the feelings of a person with autism. I think this will be important for me to think about as I enter my first level 2 in a pediatric setting. But I think what the most impactful part of this book was knowing that people with autism do grow up. They become people with lives and relationships. I enjoyed reading from John Elder's point of view and seeing the world through his eyes.
