Test Positioning
Test positioning while measuring ROM is vital to the process. In order to to know to how to properly position a person for best range, bony landmarks are important to help find that position. It is necessary to have a specific and proper position for testing ROM. It needs to be repeatable by other therapist's and it needs to be something that can be efficiently and distinctly documented. Test positioning for MMT is important because a client needs to be in a position for optimal contraction. It needs to be in a way that a muscle is not in a state of active insufficiency or passive insufficiency. If a client cannot perform the necessary motion in MMT against gravity, the therapist can use a gravity eliminated position. This is important so that a therapist can still sense or feel any level of contraction in the tested muscle. This can be indicative of whether any progress can be made for a motion.
