"Ordinary Days"

The topic of "blissful ordinariness" reminds me immediately of a movie, based on a book, called the "Magic of Ordinary Days." It's a Hallmark movie that follows a love story in the WWII era. Now at face value it does not have much to do with occupational therapy, and perhaps it doesn't, but the title alludes to a common theme in life. Something I think OTs grow to understand, which is the that there is beauty in a person's everyday ordinary life. They can see the importance of someone's occupations in their life and can walk with them to find new balance after trauma.
OTs tap into a person's needs by understanding their day to day routine, which is often taken for granted. People don't see the importance of their routine or the ordinary life until it's upended by trauma or injury. OTs empathize with a client and find common ground with them in order to help them. OTs have a great tool- themselves. Clients can learn to trust and listen to their OTs because of the very nature of the profession. OTs can see the importance of people's everyday occupations and understand the affect of trauma on a person's life.
